Infusion Therapy

What to Expect

We understand beginning anything new is always a little nerve wracking. If you're feeling anxious about starting infusion therapy, you are not alone. We want to make this process as simple and as comfortable as possible.

Whether you are beginning your infusions at home or in our Infusion Center, we want to make sure you know what to expect and help you feel you're in good hands.

Your provider has prescribed an infusion therapy or treatment and this is what comes next.

Before You Begin Your Infusion

Pharmacist Review:
Your healthcare provider will share your condition, medical history, and current medications with one of our specialty pharmacists. The pharmacist will carefully review your prescribed treatment and collaborate with your care team to develop a personalized care plan. A member of your care team will then reach out to you (or your caregiver) to explain the therapy and provide detailed education about your treatment.

Infusion Scheduling:
A dedicated Nurse will contact you or your caregiver to arrange your infusion appointments. They will go over your infusion schedule and help determine the most convenient and comfortable location for your care—whether that’s in the comfort of your home or in our infusion center.

Pre-Infusion Preparation:
Before your scheduled infusion, a nurse will call you to review any specific pre-infusion instructions from your provider. This may include lab work, dietary restrictions, or medications that need to be paused beforehand. Your nurse will also share any additional important details and answer your questions. Our team works closely with your provider to ensure your treatment is delivered safely and effectively.

Preparing for Your Infusion

Infusion Day Tips:
If your treatment is scheduled at our Infusion Center, try to arrive a bit early and give yourself plenty of time for the appointment and recovery afterward. Keeping your day free from other obligations can help reduce stress and support your recovery. Plan to rest after your infusion.

Let your care team know if anything has changed since your last visit—this includes any new medications or supplements, feeling under the weather, or experiencing a fever.

A caregiver can come with you to offer support and help with post-treatment instructions. While you're there, we will try to help make your visit comfortable.

What You Might Want to Bring:

  • Dress in loose, comfy clothes.

  • If you have a port, wear a button-up or zippered top. For PICC line access, a short-sleeved shirt works best.

  • A cozy sweater or blanket can be helpful if you get cold.

  • Consider bringing a change of clothes—just in case.

  • Pack something to pass the time, like a book, tablet, puzzles, or headphones.

  • Light snacks and drinks are usually fine during your session, as long as your healthcare provider approves.

What to Expect During Your Infusion

Monitoring Your Health:
Throughout your infusion, the care team will keep an eye on your vital signs—before, during, and after treatment. They may also take your weight or draw blood if needed to support your care plan.

Staying Comfortable:
You’ll have time to unwind during your infusion. Bring something to keep you occupied—whether it's a good book, a favorite show on your phone, or simply taking a nap to recharge.

Support Along the Way:
A nurse will check in on you regularly to make sure everything is going smoothly. If you notice anything unusual or start to feel off, don’t hesitate to speak up—they’re there to help.

After Your Infusion: What Comes Next

Post-Treatment Monitoring:
Some medications require a short observation period after the infusion is complete. Your nurse will let you know if this applies to your treatment and guide you through it.

Wrapping Up Your Visit:
Before you leave, your nurse will go over any follow-up instructions and confirm the date and time of your next appointment.

We’re Here for You:
Don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns—even after you’ve left. Nurses are available around the clock to provide support and answer your calls.

Side Effect Awareness:
You’ll be informed about possible side effects to watch for after your infusion. If anything feels off or unexpected, contact your care team right away so they can help you manage it safely.

Working Together for Your Care:
Our Nursing team works closely with your doctor, caregiver, and you to ensure your treatment experience is smooth and supportive. Whether you're receiving care at home or in an infusion center, being informed can ease concerns and help you feel more in control.
